matter(matter可数吗)

Matter—the stuff of the universe—is the basis of everything. It’s the scientific term for material, anything that has mass and occupies space.

At its most basic level, matter is comprised of atoms and their subatomic particles. Atoms join together to form molecules and, in turn, molecules form the physical objects we see around us—including us!

Matter is classified in three forms. The first is solid, which has a definite shape, size, and mass. Most of the objects in the physical world are solids. For example, a rock is a solid; its shape does not change, and it always has mass.

Liquid is the second form of matter. Liquids are distinguished from solids by their ability to flow and take the shape of the container they’re in. They can’t, however, diffuse through walls or other barriers.

Gases are the third form of matter. Unlike liquids, gases do diffuse through walls or other barriers. They are also very light and take up a lot of space. A good example of a gas is air. Gases tend to be difficult to see, though, as they don’t have physical form.

Matter is everywhere. It forms the building blocks of the universe and is the basis of all physical objects. Without it, we wouldn’t exist, nor would any of the amazing objects and creatures that inhabit the Earth.
