Editors of newspapers and magazines often go to extremes to provide their reader with unimportant facts and statistics. Last year a journalist had been instructed by a well-known magazine to write an article on the president's palace in a new African republic.

报刊杂志的编纂常常为了向读者提供建立一些关紧急的内幕和统计数字而走向极度。客岁，一位记者受一家出名的杂志的委托写一篇关于非洲某个新建立共和国总统府的文章。

（1）extreme表现“极度”

… often go to extremes … 常常走极度

Don’t go to extremes in everything. 凡事不要走极度。

也可以使用take to extremes来表达。

Taken to extremes, this kind of behavior can be dangerous. 这种举动假如走向极度则约岂十分伤害。

in the extreme 表现“十分、十分”之意。好比：

The journey would be dangerous in the extreme. 这段旅程将极度伤害。

（2）provide表现“提供”

to provide their readers with中，provide sb. with sth. 表现向或人提供某物。或provide sth. for sb.也可以。

The country has provided us with the opportunity of education. 国度为我们提供了受教导的时机。
